What is the Chapters Program?

As one of our longest-running programs, the Student Energy Chapters Program was created to unite like-minded youth with passion for energy transition and climate action within local and global contexts. The Chapters program provides students with the tools and resources to take the lead in sustainable energy initiatives on their campus and community. By leveraging our organizational brand and knowledge, we empower students to become energy leaders and drive change on a local and global level.

The Chapters program offers a unique opportunity for post-secondary students to build lasting communities and drive impact that extends beyond their time in school. The program emphasizes the development of leadership through direct mentorship on soft skill development from SE staff and alumni, as well as the cultivation of a global network of like-minded peers.

Eligibility

  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 30.
  • You must currently be enrolled as a student in a post-secondary education program.

High school students are not yet eligible to apply for Student Energy Chapters.

Application Process

If you are ready to get started, we require applicants to follow a five-step process to assess whether your needs, interests, expectations, and professional development goals align well with our Student Energy Chapters program. Here are the five stages:

  1. Fill out this Expression of Interest Form to let us know you are interested in starting a Chapter
  2. Complete an Initial Assessment that will help describe the vision for your Chapter.
  3. Join us for an Initial Meeting where we can get to know more about your goals and visions while setting expectations for the Chapters Program.
  4. If successful, you must sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Student Energy.
  5. Once the Memorandum of Understanding is signed, you are officially a Student Energy Chapter where you will begin onboarding.
For more information about the Chapters Program, please visit our website or email us at chapters@studentenergy.org.

Tips for a Successful Application

  • Highlight your lived experiences and local context. Lived experience refers to the knowledge and understanding you gain from your own life journey and the situations you've personally encountered.
  • Write your own application. The application form is intended to get to know YOU and your unique motivations for applying. Avoid using AI-generated content; it can feel generic and will not capture your individuality.
  • Focus on your dedication to the program. Clearly articulate your enthusiasm for sustainable energy and your willingness to invest time and effort in the program.
  • Take your time. The SE Chapters program accepts EOIs on a rolling basis, with no deadline to apply. Focus on crafting a strong application that showcases your best self. Please keep in mind that we will only review one application per institution at a time.

Notice on the Use of AI

Using generative AI may affect the authenticity of your application and will negatively impact your application.

For additional guidance, please refer to this guide created by YOUNGO members on writing a good application in the era of Artificial IntelligencePlease note that this is not an official guide for Student Energy’s Program Applications but offers great insights into writing a good application.

Hidden Setup Notes
University Account ID - populated based on the selected university
Existing Chapter - populated based on the selected university; a field on the Account record for University RT records that have a Chapter associated to them that has a status of "Fully Active".
Chapter Contact Redirect - a formula-enabled that takes a text value of "TRUE" if a Chapter already exists, skipping the rest of the Chapter Application forms in the workflow; and redirects them instead to a Chapter Contact Form, which allows them to send a message to the existing Chapter team. A value of "FALSE" is calculated otherwise.

Great news!
Your school already has an existing Chapter! You no longer need to apply to start a new Chapter for your school. Select the Chapter below to view their information, then click on Next below to get in touch with the team.
